The successful candidate will lead the Infrastructure Engineering team in Leeds and be responsible for the Infrastructure Design on a diverse range of exciting projects primarily in Yorkshire, the North West and the Midlands.

What Will I be doing?

Under supervision of an Associate Director:

  • Run a team of people within the Group
  • Take responsibility for management of people, client and commercial issues as required by the Job leader / Project Leader role and represent Buro Happold at meetings with clients, other professionals and suppliers
  • Monitor job and group financial performance


  • Undertake detailed civil engineering design, including drainage, minor roads, site development and earthworks.
  • Delivery of a diverse project portfolio delivering numerous projects at any one time.
  • Client facing, representing BuroHappold Engineering at both internal and external project meetings.
  • Familiar with local and UK design guides, proficient in submitting and gaining consents and approvals through liaison with Local Authorities and Statutory bodies. 
  • Plan and manage CAD documentation of design work
  • Prepare technical specifications and schedules
  • Prepare technical and financial proposals for provision of professional services
  • Ensure senior staff are kept informed of important and relevant service/design decisions and the objectives of the company and the client are achieved
  • Lead and manage planning of project work and resourcing planning of the Infrastructure team in Leeds
  • Commitment to CPD and self-learning / development.

What can I bring to the role?

  • Typically eight years’ experience or equivalent
  • Strong technical background in drainage, external works, and earthworks design.
  • Experience delivering a diverse project portfolio delivering numerous projects at any one time.
  • Good communication skills, experience of communicating technical subjects
  • Ability to work effectively and autonomously and make design decisions
  • Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in WinDes MicroDrainage, AutoCAD and Civils 3D.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, AutoCAD.

Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of Section 278 agreement and design experience
  • Some site experience desirable
  • Presentation skills


  • Bachelors degree with a minimum 2:1 result in Civil Engineering
  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering - preferred
  • Professional registration (Chartered status) with a relevant institution
