We are looking for a person passionate about solving the challenges facing cities who has specialist urban analytics skills in geospatial and data science to join our London based team.

You will have an opportunity to play a role in shaping and delivering projects combining our data analytics and urban modelling with our core strategic advisory, planning, economics, infrastructure and environment capabilities. 

You should have 2+ years post qualification experience. We are looking for a talented geospatial and data analyst who is a team player and strong project collaborator. Ideally you will have consulting experience.

What will I be doing?

  • Developing tailored consulting geospatial and data science technical solutions; ensuring the delivery of exceptional cradle to grave support to clients, delivering an approach that adapts to their understanding, experience and needs.
  • Manage GIS databases including data format conversions, coordinate transformations and data cleaning.
  • Provide GIS and data science support for analysis, modelling and web-mapping work streams.
  •  Produce high quality maps to support project teams.
  • Assist with production of documents, reports and presentations.
  •  Development of bespoke GIS/data science applications
  • Contributing towards innovation, technical capability and skills development initiatives and programmes.
  • Contribute towards developing an active pipeline of Strategic Planning business opportunities aligned with the business plan.

What can I bring to the role?

  • An understanding of urban development challenges and the value of providing a spatial analytical understanding as part of an integrated offer (including planning, economics, social science, or environmental expertise)
  • Familiarity in using visual design softwares such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, 3D Mapping or similar graphics software
  • Excellent problem solver able to interpret and understand the implications of analytical outputs
  • Awareness and understanding of what it takes to deliver effective and viable client outcomes in a commercial working environment.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external clients to promote urban analytics and deliver high quality input into their projects; recognise how technology can enable our Clients work and provide creative solutions.
  • Ability to innovate and contribute to the development of new digital products and service offerings 
  • Proficient with GIS softwares ArcGIS, version 9 and 10 and/or QGIS (others like GRASS are desirable)
  • Sound knowledge of all ArcGIS extensions specifically Network Analyst, 3D Analyst and Spatial Analyst
  • A good understanding of cartographic design and design principles and ability to produce visually stunning outputs
  • Good knowledge of database management ( using ESRI Geodatabases or PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and adherence to metadata standards
  • Experience in working with different projection system
  • Ability to work with a variety of datasets and make necessary conversions for client-side delivery
  • Experience in implementing GIS standards and delivering large scale infrastructure/development based GIS projects
  • Proficient in using Python, R or other data science packages to derive insights from large datasets
  • Proven experience in basic application development using .Net/VBA
  • Experience administering datasets through ArcSDE/ArcIMS/ArcGIS Server including knowledge of Javascript and Flex APIs.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, comfortable working independently as well as within an interdisciplinary multi-cultural team.

Desirable Skills

  • ERDAS Imagine/ER Mapper
  • Involvement in delivering integrated urban development, strategic spatial planning projects.
  • Involvement in delivering masterplanning and urban design projects
  • Statistical packages SPSS, Stata
  • Business intelligence software – MS Power BI, Tableau etc.
  • Familiarisation with additional GIS software (MapInfo/Google Earth/AutoCAD/FME)
  • Familiar with converting data between GIS and AutoCAD softwares
  • Foreign language skills desirable
  • A willingness in to travel internationally for client meetings and workshops.


  • Essential a degree qualification in geospatial science or a related field where geospatial skills have been developed.
  • A relevant MSc would be desirable but not essential.
  • Programming languages and software development (Python, C#, SQL)
  • Desirable – first degree in geography, planning, social science or environmental discipline.
  • Proficient in using MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
