The Cities team is looking for the GIS AD to develop and enhance an existing GIS capability within the Cities business unit to ensure that it supports its strategic planning projects (campus, district and city scale) as well as supporting infrastructure projects (building and campus scale) involving our technical disciplines that require more detailed geo-spatial analysis.

The GIS AD will be responsible for supporting and mentoring approximately 15 engineers and consultants who use GIS on a daily basis and looking to ensure that sufficient structure is in place to expand GIS capability across the 200+ cities business unit.

The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) AD role will primarily provide GIS Leadership within the Cities business unit and look to develop and mentor GIS capabilities within each of the Cities technical disciplines (infrastructure, transport, energy, water, waste, ICT bridges, and urban planning). The AD will also provide support and direction on key major projects within the Cities portfolio. This role is a key position within the Cities business unit in order to further develop our expanding computational design capabilities.

In addition the Cities team is looking to for the GIS AD to identify new services and products that could be programmed and developed within a GIS environment that can help enhance existing work processes and deliver additional insight.

This role will require an individual with a minimum of 10 years professional experience and has significant experience leading and developing high performing GIS teams.

 What can I bring to the role?

  • GIS Software: ArcGIS, QGis minimum; others like GRASS desirable.
  • Leadership in developing and implementing data management policies (Filing structure, naming convention, QA/QC, database administration etc.)
  • Experience in leading GIS projects and being primary point of contact with external end clients and key collaborators.
  • Geospatial data visualisation - Thematic mapping.
  • Geographical databases: ESRI Geodatabases, PostgreSQL/PostGIS etc.
  • Working closely with the different GIS end users, engineers and project teams to identify problems and provide input.
  • Experienced in deploying GIS to improve internal working efficiency and demonstrating the business case to senior leadership
  • Identifying and implementing the most appropriate and efficient geospatial workflows, processes and assurance.
  • Candidate should have understanding and some experience of historic environment data, record databases, geophysical survey data, Lidar data and point clouds, and photogrammetry (SFM) data and 3D modelling would be beneficial
  • Experience in GIS visualisation software such as City Engine, City Zenith, Urbanetic etc.
  • Familiarity with analytical tools and methodologies, such as basic geostatistical analysis, spatial statistics (e.g. clusters), parametric analysis (e.g. transport), network analysis (e.g. service area), hydrology modelling etc
  • Proficient in using MS Office (Word, Excel, Access
  • Experience in GPS
  • Experience in programming languages such as QT, Python, R, C, HTML, CSS, XML, SQL
  • Experience in driving insight through the use of data science (integrating and analysing public and private data sets as well as IoT data)

Desirable:

  • Entrepreneurial flair in creating innovative and creative solutions for clients and/ or creating new products and services
  • Commercial skills in new product development/ management
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite or similar
  • Experience in remote sensing
  • Experience in different projection systems.
  • Familiarity with other visual software or technologies (e.g. illustrator, 3d mapping).

Qualifications

  • Chartered Geographer (GIS)
  • A relevant technical degree qualification in GIS or a related field where GIS skills have been developed. A relevant MSc would be desirable but not essential
  • Membership of the Royal Geographical Society
