What sort of projects would I work on?

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club - Our people will trasform Tottenham Hotspur Football Club’s current stadium at White Hart Lane to a world class UEFA/FIFA compliant arena. The new stadium will increase spectator capacity from 36,240 to 61,000 and provide Tottenham Hotspur FC with state of the art facilities designed to support football matches, NFL games, music concerts and private events. We devised an innovative retractable pitch which could be constructed in stages so as not to disrupt day to day operations, but which in itself posed a number of complex and unprecedented challenges.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Our design team was charged with creating an iconic, world class, high performance stadium and to find a fresh approach to the movement of typical bi-panel retractable roofs. The Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s retractable roof can open in 10 minutes or less by moving eight cantilevered “petals” to create an exciting pin-wheel appearance while opening. One of our primary means of achieving this comes through our design which utilizes ETFE cushions, a transparent, inflated lightweight material that exerts minimal weight on the long span cantilevered moving petals.

What would I do?

• Working on exciting engineering projects focusing on structural and environmental performance.

• Undertake detailed engineering design using software such as Rhino and Revit.

• Code using grasshopper scripting software.

• Collaborate with local, Copenhagen based teams as well as other international teams.

• Work alongside our computational modelling team.

• Contribute to internal software development projects.

• Achieve a real understanding of what it is like to work in an engineering consultancy.

What skills could I bring to the team?

• Knowledge from a technical degree such as Architecture or Engineering.

• A passion for design technology.

• Strong communication skills and an ability to work well independently and in a team.

• Scripting knowledge – preferably C#.

Due to the nature of this role, you will need to have experience and be confident working in Rhino & Grasshopper. Working knowledge of Revit and programming experience is a plus.

What is life really like?

“BuroHappold offers me a great experience where I have to step out of my comfort zone, and encourages me to learn so many new things even non-engineering skills ! I’ve met such friendly and helpful people since joining. Working here has provided me with a unique opportunity to work closely with some of the world’s leading engineers on new and exciting projects. Not only has it inspired me but also given me confidence in what I could achieve and contribute as an engineer as my career develops”.
