At BuroHappold Engineering, we are passionate about great engineering.

We are a holistic engineering practice, where engineers are more than just human calculators; they are helpers in shaping solutions, making the world a better place to live in.

When it comes to your career, don’t opt for the obvious. Don’t accept the average. Expect the best and work with the best.

What is Security & Technology Engineering?

BuroHappold’s Security and Technology group provide a wide range of services to clients in order to develop the built environment. We typically support our clients by consulting on security strategy, and the development of physical and technologically engineered solutions in the built environment. In addition we provide advice in solutions, procurement and implementation, during and beyond construction programmes.

Our traditional areas of expertise lie in security systems (access control, intruder detection, CCTV), but frequently involve more specialised niche technological solutions to meet individual client requirements. BuroHappold security team works closely with both internal and external design teams to influence the design approach and ensure the final design functions to allow buildings to maximise not only security, but also ease of use, automation and consistency in operation.

What sort of projects would I work on?

Samba Bank HQ, Saudi Arabia. By undertaking additional, more complex analyses BuroHappold’s specialists were able to develop a design for the facility which offered a comparable level of performance and life safety to a vented solution.

Louvre, Abu Dhabi. Through our work the museum has benefited from a range of technologies such as museum guide systems and visitor counting, that improves experience and operational effectiveness, whilst being ready for supporting future technologies as they become viable.

Haramain Railway Project – Saudi Arabia. A robust security strategy and intelligently designed security technology into the fabric of the station.

What will I be doing?

Naturally, the role will be highly varied but typical responsibilities are likely to include;

  • Co-ordinating engineering delivery for a range of security projects
  • Prepare technical and financial proposals for new work
  • Production of risk registers
  • Development of security strategies in accordance with RIBA work stages
  • Prepare Technical Specifications
  • Set up and manage job/project administrative systems, including planning and monitoring job resourcing/expenditure (adjusting these as necessary).
  • Inputting into and revising Project delivery standards and processes as and when required
  • Contributing ideas and ‘design flare’ to the overall brief.
  • Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts.
  • Keeping abreast of emerging technologies in security, particularly standards, emerging systems, strategies etc.

What will you bring to the role?

We are seeking to attract intellectually curious candidates who lead by example through a 'wide-boundary' approach to problem solving and innovation. You will help us to break new ground and challenge existing ways of working in order find solutions to existing and fresh security infrastructure and strategy problems in the built environment. We are aware that excellent experience can be honed in a variety of environments so welcome applications from any consultant or engineer who can demonstrate the required knowledge and experience.

As an experienced Security Engineer we would expect that you can demonstrate:

  • A sound foundation of project management skills with the experience of working on security or related technologies on a variety of project types
  • A keen eye for detail to ensure that design information is produced with a consistent and rationalised approach
  • Experience of specifying and making recommendations of specialist technology within a variety of projects
  • Degree level qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Systems and Communication engineering or similar;
  • Chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant institution - e.g. IET or similar
  • Excellent communication skills and the desire to develop consultancy skills to act as an advisor
  • A good knowledge of BIM technology and relevant 3D modelling is advantageous.

What's in it for you?

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious candidate to work at the forefront of innovation in security engineering and strategic consultancy. The size of the team (c. 20 staff across 2 offices) and it's autonomy for R&D within our specialist consulting group empowers staff at all grades to make a significant impact on project outcomes and the continued advancement of our security offering.
