What is Security & Technology Engineering?

Digital technology continues to advance apace. Pair this with the world’s constantly evolving security risks, and you want to be certain your built environment is safe. Our experience and position across defence and security, information technology and the construction industries uniquely qualifies us to offer services uncommon to traditional security and technology consultants.

Our traditional areas of expertise lie in security systems (CCTV, access control, intruder detection), IT infrastructures, Audio Visual systems and building management systems. However, we advocate a holistic approach to technology and do consider many technology niches, such as smart home technologies, asset tracking and protection, use of drones, car park management – any technology that might be applied within the built environment. Which is a big list.

What sort of projects would I work on?

We have an extensive range of projects across multiple sectors, design stages and locations. Recent projects include:

Samba Bank HQ, Saudi Arabia. By undertaking additional, more complex analyses BuroHappold’s specialists were able to develop a design for the facility which offered a comparable level of performance and life safety to a vented solution.

Louvre, Abu Dhabi. Through our work the museum has benefited from a range of technologies such as museum guide systems and visitor counting, that improves experience and operational effectiveness, whilst being ready for supporting future technologies as they become viable.

Haramain Railway Project – Saudi Arabia. A robust security strategy and intelligently designed security technology into the fabric of the station.

What will I be doing?

Naturally, the role will be highly varied but typical responsibilities are likely to include;

  • Leading projects on behalf of the technology discipline
  • Consulting with clients, collaborators and stakeholders to capture requirement and probe into the desired outcomes
  • Develop briefs and strategies, market capability, roadmaps and budgets taking into account a variety of factors
  • Input into consultative work – will require an good understanding of key business drivers for ICT infrastructure and implementation, and the ability to support clients in developing briefs for later design work.
  • Communicating with clients to support them in developing their aspirations and ideas to help tailor solutions bespoke to each project, that consider up to date technology and harness the benefits of integration with other services and disciplines.
  • Understanding and promoting smart building technology; developing smart building strategies that support the business aspirations of the client’s development.
  • Monitoring yours and others use of project finances; effectively managing time and resource within your team;
  • Mentorship and line management of more junior staff.
  • Take an active role in helping to promote the department and engage with senior management in supporting the development of group level strategy.

What will you bring to the team...

You will bring a high degree of intellectual curiosity and adapability to meet new challenges. Inquisitiveness and a desire to be innovative are important, but you must be prepared to listen to our clients and design around their needs.

Additional requirements include:

  • Experience in a technology based position;
  • Ideally, some understanding of project management/job leadership;
  • Relevant industrial qualifications and a desire to pursue professional registration with a relevant body;
  • An understanding of networking and security technologies and concepts is important, ideally accompanied by design experience.

What's in it for me?

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious candidate to work at the forefront of innovation in smart building technology. The size of the team (c. 20 staff across 2 offices) and its autonomy for R&D within our specialist consulting group confers excellent opportunities for staff at all grades to make a significant impact on product innovation and ultimately project outcomes.
